Gastrointestinal Cancer Screening
and Stomach Ulcer Treatment
What is gastrointestinal cancer screening?
Screening is the process of looking for cancer before a patient is displaying any symptoms. This can help diagnose cancer at an early stage. When abnormal tissue or cancer is found early, it may be easier to treat. By the time symptoms appear, cancer may have begun to spread.
Scientists are trying to better understand which people are more likely to get certain types of cancer. They also study the things we do and the things around us to see if they cause cancer. This information helps doctors recommend who should be screened for cancer, which screening tests should be used, and how often the tests should be done.
It is important to remember that your doctor does not necessarily think you have cancer if he or she suggests a screening test. Screening tests are given when you have no cancer symptoms. If a screening test result is abnormal, you may need to have more tests done to find out if you have cancer. These are called diagnostic tests.
When will I require gastrointestinal cancer screenings
and stomach ulcer treatment?
Gastro-intestinal cancer screenings and stomach ulcer treatment are some
specialised services Dr Ong may provide after a general gastroenterological
consultation. Stomach ulcer treatments can help to prevent eventual onset
of stomach cancer, and gastrointestinal cancer screenings can help to detect
any issues within your gastrointestinal tract.
What happens during gastrointestinal cancer screenings
and stomach ulcer treatment?
Firstly, endoscopies, biopsies and other common screening methods are used
to help Dr Ong determine if stomach ulcer treatment is required. If treatment
is required, Dr Ong will discuss a plan for gastro-intestinal cancer or stomach
ulcer treatment.
When taking your medical history, Dr Ong will ask about your symptoms and
possible risk factors to see if they might suggest gastro-intestinal cancer or
stomach ulcers. The physical exam can give Dr Ong information about possible
signs that may require stomach ulcer treatment.
