Dr. David Ong – a respected Singapore gastroenterologist. Dr. Ong is a Singaporean gastroenterologist based in Mount Elizabeth Singapore, where he runs his private practice – David Ong Gastroenterology.

With years of experience treating and managing conditions of the stomach, bowel, and liver, Dr. Ong is a leading Singapore gastroenterologist. His area of sub-specialty lies in treating inflammatory bowel diseases like ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, with a further focus on colorectal cancer surveillance and the gut microbiome. As part of his work in gastroenterology, Dr. Ong performed the first Faecal Microbiota Transplant (FMT) in Singapore in 2014.

As part of his work as a Singapore gastroenterologist, Dr. Ong set up the Inflammatory bowel disease unit at the National University Hospital (NUH) and has been published widely in this area, while serving as a speaker at local and global conferences. In addition, he has served on multiple advisory boards of pharmaceutical companies as a thought leader and advisor and started Southeast Asia’s first and only gut precision microbiome company: AMiLi (Asian Microbiome Library).

Dr. Ong has served as the head of gastroenterology and hepatology at the National University Hospital Singapore (NUH) and remains as a visiting senior consultant. In his time in NUH as a gastroenterologist, he held the positions of divisional director of Clinical Services, Director of Risk and Value at the NUHS cluster and Associate Chairman of Risk Management & Medico-Legal for NUH.

He holds an Adjunct Associate Professorship at the National University of Singapore (NUS), Department of Medicine, and is also an advisor to and chair of the nomination committee of the International Council, NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine Singapore.

Dr. Ong currently serves as the incoming president of the Gastroenterology Society of Singapore and the honorary secretary of the Chapter of Gastroenterology, Academy of Medicine, Singapore. In addition, he has served as a member of the Singapore Medical Council Complaints Panel since 2016.
