Diarrhoea, Constipation and Intestinal Pain
Diarrhoea refers to loose, watery bowel movements that may be accompanied by intestinal pain. Diarrhoea and intestinal
pain lasting more than a few days may be a sign of a more serious problem. Chronic diarrhoea and intestinal pain –
diarrhoea that lasts at least four weeks – can be a symptom of chronic disease. Diarrhoea treatment may range from a
change in diet, to probiotics and anti-diarrheal medications.
Constipation occurs when bowel movements become less frequent and stools become difficult to pass, which may be
accompanied by intestinal pain. It happens most often due to changes in diet or routine, or due to inadequate intake of fiber.
Intestinal pain refers to a pain felt in the gut, below the stomach. Intestinal pain may be accompanied by both diarrhoea and
constipation. Intestinal pain may be resolved with proper diarrhea treatment.
